The joint body of the Port of Cochin union will add to its excitement and call on the state and union governments to take steps to resolve the problem of negative growth at the International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT) under the Port of Cochin Authority.
The union will start an indefinite strike in the coming days and make various demands.
The Vallarpadam terminal saw a sharp drop in the number of containers (TEU) handled during the 2022-23 financial year. From 7.35 lakh TEU in FY 2021-22, the figure decreased to 6.95 lakh TEU in FY 2022-23. Unions claim that the lack of proper government oversight is the main reason behind the negative growth of Dubai Port (DP) World-managed ICTT.
