The new Mangalore Port Authority aims to handle 51 million tons of cargo in 2023-2024

He paid tribute to the port users in Mangaluru, saying the port had one of its best performances with a cargo volume of 41.42 million tons in 2022-23, a growth of 5.4 percent.

The port handled 1.65 lakh TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) containers in 2022–23, up from 1.50 lakh TEU in 2021–22. In the current fiscal year, the company had aimed to handle 300,000 TEU containers.

On improving road connectivity to the hinterland, he said the center’s initiatives should help provide all-weather connectivity to the hinterland by 2024.

Minister of State for Ports, Shipping, Waterways and Tourism Shripad Yesso Naik presented awards to cargo handlers, stevedores, steamer agents, auxiliary service providers and cruise and hospitality service providers, among others.
