The Network Planning Group under Prime Minister GatiShakti recommends five road connectivity projects

Located in Mizoram, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand and Kanpur, these five projects would improve connectivity to industrial clusters and social sector assets, and improve logistics efficiency by streamlining freight transport and decongesting cities.

The 2.5km Greenfield Twin Tube Unidirectional Aizawl Bypass Tunnel proposed under Bharatmala Pariyojna-2 is crucial from a regional connectivity perspective and will improve connectivity between the Kaladan River port of Sittwe in Myanmar and the Northeast region improve. It will also connect with economic centers in Sairang, Aizawl, Seling, social sector assets such as Zoram Medical College, Mizoram Central University and NIT Aizawl, and tourist spots such as Solomon’s Temple Church in Aizawl, Mizoram State Museum and Aizawl provide.

This project is expected to reduce time and lead to greater efficiency by increasing average speed by 50%. This tunnel is expected to reduce the travel distance and time between Phaibawk and Sairang by 39% and 60%, respectively.

Two capacity expansion projects in the state of Maharashtra were evaluated, which are important in terms of connectivity to commercial hubs, places of worship and tourism, industrial clusters and defense facilities. Both projects – Alignment of Nashik Phata to Khed and Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi Marg – planned via NMP portal focusing on key principles of Prime Minister GatiShakti’s National Master Plan – aim to enhance connectivity to 10 economic hubs and 12 social hubs and enhanced multi-modality with integrated function Infrastructure development and improved supply network. Land acquisition and other permits are streamlined by identifying permit or permit requirements in the NMP portal.

The proposed construction project for mitigation measures of 20 No. Landslides, 11 No. Sink Zones and 2 No. Bridges in Uttarakhand State will provide year-round connection between different parts of Garhwal region in Uttarakhand, industrial sites such as Karnprayag and Gaucher and heliports in Gaucher ensure and is critical from a disaster management perspective.

The greenfield project to build 6-lane bypass/ring roads around Kanpur city under Bharatmala is expected to reduce driving distance, time and fuel consumption. The project will help decongest Kanpur city and provide direct connection between Lucknow Kanpur Expressway, NH-19 and further towards Chakeri Airport.

A discussion also took place on the Ministry of Steel (MoS) proposal to include mud pipeline projects in the GatiShakti framework and network planning group assessment process.
