The government imposes export restrictions on chrome ores

The government on Thursday imposed export restrictions on chrome ores and concentrates used in various industries including stainless steel production. India exported US$10.96 million worth of chrome ores and concentrates in 2022-23, with almost all going to China.

The decision would hamper the export of these minerals as an exporter would now have to obtain a license from the Directorate General for Foreign Trade (DGFT) for these supplies.

“The export items according to HS code 2610 have been classified in the restricted category with immediate effect,” the DGFT said in a statement.
