Stowage passengers rescued after 13 days at the helm Ship’s crew

Four stowaways were found alive in the rudder trunk of a Liberian-flagged vessel after a 5,000 nautical mile voyage from Nigeria to Brazil.

The stowaways were located by the Brazilian Federal Police on Monday morning after the ship arrived in Vitória, the capital of Epirito Santo. The ship, whose name has not been identified, was reported to have left Lagos, Nigeria thirteen days earlier on June 27.

The stowaways, who claim to be Nigerian citizens, were unable to provide documents verifying their origin and identity.

Due to their poor health, the men were taken ashore and given medical attention. They now remain in the care and responsibility of the Maritime Agency until they can be repatriated to their home country.
