South Carolina Ports has handled over 2.4 million TEUs so far in FY23

South Carolina Ports (SC Ports) has handled over 2.4 million TEUs and 1.3 million pier containers so far in fiscal year 2023 (July 2022 – June 2023).

In May, SC Ports handled 198,824 TEU and 110,834 pier containers. Due to the tightening economy, container shipments fell by around 22% year-on-year. Imports are falling as citizens spend less on products, but exports are rising, up 4% year-on-year.

Additionally, SC Ports processed 20,026 vehicles for global automakers at the Columbus Street Terminal in May, representing a 14% year-over-year growth.

SC Ports’ two rail-bound inland ports, which transport freight by rail between the Port of Charleston and the inland markets, saw high volumes. Inland Port Dillon had another record month in May, handling 4,415 rail shipments, a 138% increase from the same month last year, while Inland Port Greer handled 14,931 rail shipments, a 4% year-on-year increase.
