Sonowal reviews progress of India’s first international multimodal logistics park in Assam

On that occasion, Sonowal said that in view of the rapid development of Northeast India, the central government has taken many revolutionary steps to revitalize the economy. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of transformation through transport has enabled the entire Northeast region to renew its transport network.

He said, “As the construction of this crucial multimodal park progresses at a rapid pace, it is likely to unlock tremendous potential for the region along with neighboring countries such as Bhutan and Bangladesh.”

According to the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, PM Gati Shakti’s national master plan was conceived to revitalize and rejuvenate transport to become an efficient and effective agent of change. To ensure the seepage of economic prosperity, the PM Gati Shakti NMP aims to strengthen the coastal regions of both sea and rivers.

The park is being developed under the government’s ambitious Bharatmala Pariyojana. The first such MMLP will be manufactured by NHIDCL in Jogighopa of Assam. The park will be connected to roads, rail, air and waterways. This is being developed on 317 hectares of land along the Brahmaputra.

The distance of 154 km between Jogighopa and Guwahati will be covered by the construction of a 4-lane road on this route, a 3 km railway line will connect Jogighopa station to the MMLP, another 3 km railway line will connect it to the IWT . and the road to the newly developed Rupsi Airport will be widened to 4 lanes for easier connectivity.

The MMLP will have all the facilities such as warehouse, railway siding, cold storage, customs building, shipyard facility, workshop, fuel pump, truck parking lot, administration building, boarding house, canteen, water treatment plant, etc., the ministry said in a statement.
