Rupee nears replacing dollar as 18 nations agree to trade in INR

The UAE could soon join 18 other countries that have agreed to trade Indian rupees and abandon the dollar as a cross-border transaction method.

Talks are underway with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to regulate trade in rupee dirhams for imports and exports, a report by said Financial Express quoted a senior official as saying.

Top executives from both countries are expected to announce the deal soon.
