Prime Minister Modi and his Nepalese counterpart Prachanda inaugurate UP’s first land port

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Nepalese counterpart Pushpakamal Dahal “Prachanda” will virtually inaugurate Uttar Pradesh’s first land port along the India-Nepal border here on Thursday, officials said.

AP Singh, who has been dispatched to Rupaidiha land port as an adviser by the Land Port Authority of India, said on Wednesday the prime ministers will inaugurate the facility at 11.30am from New Delhi.

Senior officials from both countries have completed preparations for the inauguration, he said.

Singh said the Land Port Authority of India, which comes under the Union Home Office, has set up integrated checkpoints at the country’s international borders to ensure the smooth movement of cargo and passenger vehicles.

Cross-border transportation of trucks will be facilitated by merging customs, immigration and other facilities of the two countries under one roof in these centers on either side of the border, he added.

Singh said the construction of the Rupaidiha land port, which was built on 115 hectares of land, cost about 200 crores rupees.
