Piyush Goyal outlines India’s roadmap for $250 billion textile production

Indian Minister of Textiles, Trade and Industry Piyush Goyal recently discussed the strategic roadmap to help India reach a milestone of US$250 billion in textile production and US$100 billion in exports by 2030. The discussion took place during the Chintan Shivir, a brainstorming event organized by the Ministry of Textiles on July 18, 2023.

Stressing the importance of an integrated approach to revitalizing the textile sector, Goyal urged officials to come up with innovative ideas and focus on reforming the institutional structure for better service delivery. The need to be globally competitive has been a key point in their interaction, according to a press release from the Textile Ministry.

The Chintan Shivir brought together officials from across the country and enabled group brainstorming sessions on five key themes: increasing exports, investment, building size and scale, sustainability and the transition from natural to man-made fibers. The groups presented detailed recommendations and solutions to various industry challenges.

The Union Minister of State for Textiles, Darshana Jardosh, opened the session and stressed the importance of the textile industry for India’s economic growth. She called for collective attention to foster growth in all segments of the value chain.
