PESB selects Sanjay Swarup as CONCOR’s next CMD

The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has selected Sanjay Swarup for the role of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Container Corporation of India Ltd (CONCOR).

Swarup is currently Director (International Marketing and Operations) at India’s largest container rail transport company.

Swarup was selected from a short list of eight candidates, six of which were from CONCOR.

Sanjay Swarup had been recommended for the post of CONCOR chairman and managing director, the SPEB announced on its website after an interview on Wednesday.

The recommendation of the PESB must be signed by the Cabinet Appropriations Committee (ACC).

Swarup has been an Indian Railways Traffic Service (IRTS) officer since 1990. During his three-decade career, Swarup has held positions in the public sector and government.

He worked for Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) for four years before joining Indian Railways and working in areas such as Operations, Trade, Safety and Information Technology.

At CONCOR he was responsible for dry port operations and management, international marketing, trading and operations. He has been involved in the design of dry ports and multimodal logistics parks and has assumed strategic planning roles within the company.

Swarup has a BE (Hons) – Electronics and Communications Engineering – from IIT Roorkee and a PGDM (Public Policy and Management) from IIM Bangalore.

He is also a Life Member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, the Asian Institute of Transport Development, the Center for Transportation Research and Management, and the All India Management Association.

V Kalyana Rama, the acting CMD, will step down on September 30th.

CONCOR has been scheduled for privatization by the government, but the formal process has yet to begin.
