Orissa Stevedores Limited (OSL) on Thursday handled the domestic export of gypsum from Paradip port to Pipavav port in Gujarat, an official statement said.
“The largest stevedoring company in East India, Orissa Stevedores Limited (OSL), handled the first of its kind domestic export of gypsum from Paradip Port to Pipavav Port in Gujarat,” reads the press release. This entire domestic export process was overseen and managed by OSL.
“While the cargo was first brought into Paradip by barges from the river dock of leading fertilizer company IFFCO (developed by OSL), it was unloaded from the barges and loaded to the main berth of the Paradip Port Authority (PPA) and loaded onto the larger vessel called the MV Paranassos,” it said.
OSL further stated in its statement that they achieved this feat following the redevelopment of river operations in Odisha.
“OSL has achieved this unique feat by redeveloping river operations in Odisha after almost a century. This has demonstrated the possibility of using waterways as a viable mode of transport,” it said.
On this occasion, the founder of OSL Group, Mahimananda Mishra, mentioned that the use of a multimodal transport system has started and this marks a new dimension for the transport sector.
“The era of a new dimension of the transport sector with the use of a multimodal transport system has begun and OSL has played a crucial role in this system. It brings me great joy and it’s like a dream come true for the entire OSL team,” he said.
“He went on to explain that this lower-emission transportation system will not only boost the country’s economy in many ways, but also protect our environment,” he added.
Present on the occasion were IFFCO Director KJ Patel, Paradip Port Authority Chairman PL Haranadh and senior officials from IFFCO, PPA and OSL.
