On the way to emission-free mobility: Saloodo! by DHL introduces the UAE’s first electric truck

The digital road freight platform Saloodo! of DHL Global Forwarding has announced that it will be the first logistics company to introduce the UAE’s first electric Mercedes-Benz truck. The all-electric 40-ton eActros 300 tractor is particularly suitable for heavy-duty distribution transport and is compatible with all standard semi-trailers. Used exclusively by Saloodo! The truck will help reduce CO2 emissions in the UAE, in line with DHL’s goal of net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050.

The Saloodo! The team began investigating sustainable road freight solutions in the MEA region late last year. After a shortlist of options suitable for the region’s harsh climate and several rounds of negotiations with key manufacturers, the Mercedes-Benz eActros 300 was selected by Daimler Commercial Vehicles MENA (DCV MENA) and Emirates Motor Company – Commercial Vehicles (EMC CV) as the first Saloodo! Electric trucks in the UAE and MEA region.

Tobias Maier, CEO Saloodo! MEA said: “As we move towards our goal of zero carbon emissions by 2050, DHL remains committed to serving our customers with smart digital solutions that improve sustainability and efficiency.” Our investment in the VAE, the Mercedes-Benz eActros 300, is another step towards innovative solutions that help us achieve our ambitious sustainability goals and create unique solutions for our valued customers. We are proud to turn our vision into reality.”

Kay-Wolf Ahlden, President and CEO of Daimler Commercial Vehicles MENA, said: “Today we celebrate a landmark partnership between Daimler Commercial Vehicles MENA, DHL, Emirates Motor Company – Commercial Vehicles (EMC CV) and Al Safa embodies our shared commitment to a greener, more sustainable future. As the first truck customer in the MENA region to choose our Mercedes-Benz eActros 300 tractor, DHL is setting a strong example in the field of zero-emission transport solutions. This all-electric marvel, equipped with our state-of-the-art eAxle technology and two integrated electric motors, delivers both power and efficiency. With an impressive total combination weight of up to 40 tons, it proves that heavy-duty distribution traffic can be environmentally friendly without sacrificing performance. Together with DHL, we are driving the shift towards emission-free logistics and paving the way to a cleaner and healthier planet for generations to come.”

As an asset-light organisation, DHL did not buy or lease the electric truck directly, but entered into a partnership with long-term partner Al Safa Transport in the United Arab Emirates, who bought the electric truck on DHL’s behalf. The truck is used, for example, for the sustainable multimodal cooperation between DHL and Etihad Rail. DHL is thus going one step further in offering its customers a consistently sustainable and CO2-efficient logistics solution. It will also be part of customer events at DHL’s MEA Innovation Center in southern Dubai.

DHL has launched its digital platform for road freight solutions, Saloodo!. in the Middle East and Africa to bring greater visibility, real-time visibility and efficiency to regional road networks. Saloodo! offers a digital platform that connects shippers and transport providers for road freight transport. With these groundbreaking initiatives, DHL is also embedding sustainability throughout its operations, connecting people, enabling commerce and helping businesses grow.
