New Port of Mangalore sets record for largest container package size ever

The port of New Mangalore on Friday handled 2,689 TEU (20-foot equivalent units), its highest-ever container package size.

The MSC MAKOTO II, a Panama-flagged container ship, was in the port of New Mangalore on Friday, carrying 1,210 TEU import containers and 1,479 TEU export containers.

Citing AV Ramana, Chairman of the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA), a media statement said: “We are pleased to announce the call of the vessel with the highest package size of 2,689 TEU of containers at Berth No. 14 This milestone underscores our commitment to providing superior services to our valued customers. We are grateful for the hard work and dedication of our team, and for the unwavering support of our stakeholders. New Mangalore Port remains true to its pursuit of excellence and we will continue to invest in upgrading our infrastructure to meet the evolving needs of the trading community.”

Due to the political measures taken by the port, e.g. B. Fixed berthing windows and various commercial incentive initiatives to boost container throughput, coupled with improved productivity through the mechanized terminal, the port has emerged as the region’s leader in container throughput, serving the growing demand demands of domestic and international trade it in the statement. This latest achievement underscores the port’s strategic vision and flawless execution, demonstrating its efficiency, capacity and commitment to improving trade operations, it said.

In April 2022, JSW Mangalore Container Terminal Pvt Ltd started operating a mechanized container terminal at NMPA. JSW has signed a concession agreement with NMPA to mechanize berth no. 14

The port’s container handling achievements at Berth No. 14, through JSW Mangalore Container Terminal Pvt Ltd, underscores its determination to contribute to the growth and development of the regional and national economies, it added.
