MSC receives world’s largest container ship

Shanghai-based Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) has built the world’s largest container ship and delivered it to the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC).

The MSC Tessa has a container capacity of 24,116 TEU and is the first of four container ships of the same size that have been purchased by the world’s largest container shipping company.

The ship is currently the world’s largest boxship in terms of TEU capacity, according to Hudong-Zhonghua, a unit of China State Shipbuilding Corp (CSSC).

The mega container ship is 399.99 meters long and 61.5 meters wide.

The Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Group reported that the second ship in the series ordered has completed sea trials and that the other two sister ships are also under construction. All remaining boxships are expected to be delivered before August 2023.
