Modi Cabinet approves PLI Scheme 2.0 at Rs 17,000 expense for manufacturing and exporting IT hardware

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, had approved the launch of Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme 2.0 for IT Hardware to Improve India’s Manufacturing Capabilities and Boost Exports – Atmanirbhar Bharat – on May 17, 2023.

The program was registered on May 29, 2023. The application window as part of the PLI program 2.0 for IT hardware will open on June 1st, 2023.

The PLI 2.0 program for IT hardware is expected to broaden and deepen the manufacturing ecosystem by promoting the localization of components and subassemblies and enabling longer supply chain development within the country. Additionally, the program offers applicants more flexibility and options, and is tied to rising revenue and investment thresholds to further incentivize growth. In addition, semiconductor design, IC fabrication and packaging are also included as incentive components of the PLI 2.0 program for IT hardware.

  • The PLI 2.0 program for IT hardware was approved at a budget expense of ₹17,000 crore.

• The program is expected to result in total production of approximately ₹3.35 million crore, entail an additional investment of ₹2,430 crore in electronics manufacturing and result in the creation of 75,000 additional direct jobs.

• The program will drive high-volume manufacturing of laptops, tablets, all-in-one PCs, servers and Ultra Small Form Factor (USFF) devices and contribute significantly to approximately $300 billion in electronics manufacturing revenue by 2025-2026 achieve.

• Eligible applicants of existing PLI may apply under PLI 2.0.

  • There are three categories of applicants for the program: global companies, hybrid (global/domestic) companies and domestic companies.
