The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has announced the inclusion of Jeddah Islamic Port in the REX shipping service operated by Asyad Line, part of Omani integrated logistics provider Asyad Group.
Launched in May, this new cargo route will use two vessels with a combined capacity of 2,800 TEU to provide connections between Jeddah and India’s Nhava Sheva and Mundra ports and Oman’s Salalah and Sokhna ports, Mawani said in his statement.
This latest addition is a testament to the Saudi group’s commitment to strengthening the competitive advantage of the Kingdom’s busiest port and its container operators, while expanding the Kingdom’s maritime connectivity and trading performance in line with the goals of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS) .
Aiming to position Jeddah among the world’s ten largest hubs, the Red Sea port is undergoing a series of infrastructure upgrades, Mawani said.
These included deepening access channels and turning basins, building new berths to accommodate greater maritime traffic, and strengthening its world-class logistics offering to support the country’s economic development and diversification efforts, she added.
