Maritime Board approves luxury cruise service linking smaller ports in Kerala

Luxury cruise services connecting smaller ports will soon be introduced in Kerala. The service will provide connections between ports such as Beypore, Azheekal, Vizhinjam, Kollam and Kochi.

Mumbai-based cruise operator SSR Marine Services Private Limited will be responsible for operating the service. The proposal was discussed at a meeting of the Kerala Maritime Board chaired by Chairman NS Pillai and passed on for government approval. Once approved, the ship will operate after the monsoon season under the supervision of the Kerala Maritime Board.

The Kerala Maritime Board receives five percent of the revenue from the cruise services. Currently, the state has only one luxury ship, Nefertiti, operated by Kerala Inland Navigation Corporation at Kochi Port. The introduction of cruise services connecting smaller ports will be of great benefit to tourists.
