Maersk receives pioneering green methanol boxship in Copenhagen

AP Moller – Maersk will host a week of celebrations in Copenhagen, Denmark, including a naming ceremony and other activities to honor the world’s first container ship to run on green methanol.

The 172-meter-long ship will set sail from Korea’s Hyundai Mipo shipyard this summer on its maiden voyage to Copenhagen. The ship will have a container capacity of 2,100 TEU and will travel at 17.4 knots.

The ship will be officially christened Toldboden during Ship Week in Copenhagen.
The dual-fuel motor vessel will stop in Copenhagen right in front of Maersk’s headquarters on its way to the Baltic Sea where it is to be deployed in the future.

Maersk is preparing to acquire a fleet of new, large, ocean-going dual-fuel vessels beginning in 2024.
