Maersk internal power outage at APM Terminals Pipavav – Impact on port operations and ship schedule

When the high winds hit the coast of Gujarat on Monday 29th May 2023, we saw significant impacts on port operations and delays in vessel schedules as the high winds uprooted the Gujarat Electricity Transmission Company Limited (GETCO) power transmission towers, which to … the failure of the mains power supply.

While we are closely monitoring the situation, we would like to share with you the detailed update on the port disruptions and ship schedule dated June 2, 2023.

port operations

Due to the power failure in the port, port operations are affected. On the evening of May 29, 2023, high winds uprooted the power poles of Gujarat Electricity Transmission Company Limited (GETCO) outside the port area, causing a power outage.

According to GETCO, full power restoration is expected by June 8. In the meantime, the port has started partial operation via its own power plant and the DG sets.

The rail-side operation is partially started with reach stackers. Main ICD operation halted due to inactive RMGC. For this reason, the delivery of loaded import containers and the delivery of empty containers is blocked for the containers lying in the RMGC shipyard. Manual operation of the reach stacker is not possible due to the track layout.

Due to the current situation, the container berth will remain out of service until June 5, 2023, 11:59 p.m.

The port can handle the container ship on June 8, 2023 at the earliest, provided that the power supply is regulated.
