Maersk inaugurates its first warehousing and distribution facility in Cape Town, South Africa

The new W&D facility extends over 10,000 m². and has an additional open courtyard area of 3,500 sqm. The facility is over 85% covered with racking, providing 7,000 pallet spaces.

The warehouse is strategically located with access to the strategic Belcon siding less than 5km away, the Port of Cape Town 22km away and with quick and easy access to the N1 and N2 motorways and in close proximity to Cape Town International Airport. This allows customers to use different modes of transport to transport their goods to and from the Maersk warehouse. The railway siding will provide reliable, faster, cost-effective and environmentally friendly access to/from the port, bypassing traffic and congestion at the port gates.

Maersk’s new W&D facility in Cape Town will become a critical link in the end-to-end supply chain management of customers’ cargo from origin to destination. With full data integration with the state-of-the-art Warehouse Management System (WMS), customers are guaranteed clear visibility of the movement of their cargo and better inventory management.
