Madhaiyan Angamuthu takes over as Chair of Port Authority of Visakhapatnam

Madhaiyan Angamuthu, an official of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre (2002), took over as Chair of the Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) here on Tuesday.

He will be appointed Chair (JS level) of the VPA at the Department of Ports, Shipping and Waterways until 2027.

Hailing from Dharmapuri District, Tamil Nadu, he holds a PhD in Agriculture with a specialization in Horticulture from the Indian Agriculture Research Institute (IARI) and a Masters in Horticulture from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, and an Agriculture degree from Tamil Nadu Agriculture University, Coimbatore.

He began his career as an auxiliary gatherer in Jorhat district of Assam. He has extensive experience in several key areas of public administration. He is notable for being involved in diverse areas of work, from public-centric initiatives to infrastructure building. He has been appointed Deputy Chairman and CEO of the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority. He has been responsible for portfolios such as CEO-Guwahati Bio-Tech Park, MD, Guwahati Smart City Limited, Project Director-Assam Urban Infrastructure Investment Program (a project funded by the Asian Development Bank) and Secretary of Government. of Assam Planning and Development Department and Commissioner of Guwahati Municipal Corporation.

As Commissioner and Secretary of the Government of Assam, he headed departments such as the Department of Welfare of Tribes and Backward Classes, the Department of General Administration, the Department of Administration of the Secretariat, the Department of Urban Development, the Department of Tourism, the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare and the Divisional Commissioner for North Assam Division, Tezpur, Assam.

He is the Chairman of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority, an umbrella organization of the Government of India’s Department of Trade and Industry, established specifically to promote the export of agricultural and related products from India. APEDA’s export basket includes fresh and processed fruits and vegetables, other processed foods, grains and cereal products, animal products, floriculture and organic products.

Mr. Angamuthu has also completed various training programs both domestically and internationally in the areas of program and project implementation, leadership development, urban transportation, urban water management, public order management and e-governance.
