Industry and Commerce special minister R. Karikal Valaven claimed Wednesday that the state government is ahead of other states across the country in providing robust facilities to improve prosperity in the ports and maritime sectors.
In anticipation of the forthcoming visit of the Prime Minister to Machilipatnam to start the port works in Machilipatnam, Karikal Valaven visited the port construction area, mast area and heliport together with district collector Fr. Raja Babu from Krishna on Wednesday.
On that occasion, Special CS said that the first phase of port works at Machilipatnam would be completed in 30 months, adding that the port would be beautifully spruced up. This will provide employment for 25,000 people in Krishna district, he added.
He further said that the government is also improving transport options (road and rail) to improve connectivity to all ports. He said the state is making rapid strides toward industrial and economic development.
Collector P Raja Babu said Prime Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will fulfill the district people’s long-held dream of building Machilipatnam Port.
He said the prime minister will start port works on May 22. He also said the port will provide job opportunities for youth in the district.
The port will have a handling capacity of 80,000 tons. Port General Manager Vidya Sankar, MEGA Project Manager Tulasi Das, RDO I Kishore and others accompanied the Special Secretary.
