JNPA Port sets the global benchmark with a record turnaround time of 22 hours for containers

Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), India’s leading container port, has achieved a global milestone in container throughput with a remarkable turnaround time (TAT) of just 22 hours, according to the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index (LPI) Report 2023.

This success follows JNPA’s record-breaking throughput of 6.05 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) in fiscal year 2022-23, surpassing its previous peak just a month earlier.

JNPA attributes its achievements to a number of measures aimed at reducing dwell time, such as: B. Improving the operational efficiency of terminal operators, strengthening land-side rail and road connectivity, and implementing a centralized car park (CPP). In addition, the port has digitized processes, optimized docking and undocking procedures for ships and deployed additional tugs to ensure seamless ship transitions.

Sanjay Sethi, Chairman of the JNPA, expressed his enthusiasm for the World Bank’s data, stressing that the JNPA’s efficiency surpasses many countries. Sethi and the Vice-Chairman congratulated the team on this significant achievement and reaffirmed their commitment to further reduce logistics costs and time spent on EXIM trading.

The LPI report assesses countries’ trade logistics performance on six dimensions: efficiency of the handling process, quality of trade and transport-related infrastructure, ease of organizing shipments at competitive prices, competence and quality of logistics services, ability to track and trace shipments, and frequency of on-time delivery Deliveries to the recipient.
