Iran releases video of Advantage Sweet boarding in the Gulf of Oman Ship’s crew

New footage aired by Iranian state television on Friday showed Iranian naval commandos boarding a US oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman.

The US Navy confirmed that Iran has seized the Marshall Islands-flagged vessel. Advantage Sweet, in international waters in the Gulf of Oman last Thursday. This incident is the latest in a series of seizures and attacks by Iranian forces on merchant ships navigating the Gulf’s sensitive waters.

The capture of Advantage Sweet followed the US seizure of Iranian oil cargo aboard a separate tanker just days earlier, according to sources.

The Iranian military claimed that the Advantage Sweet had collided with an Iranian boat and injured several crew members.

The Advantage Sweet, a Suezmax crude oil tanker, had been chartered by oil giant Chevron. AIS data from MarineTraffic.com stated that the ship was en route from Kuwait to Houston, Texas at the time of the seizure.
