India’s first international multimodal logistics park in Jogighopa, Assam

Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways and Ayush, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, today visited the construction site of India’s first international multimodal logistics park in Jogighopa, Assam to review progress. Shri Sonowal said the walkway in the park is expected to be completed later this year. The Union Minister expressed his satisfaction with the pace of work as the road and rail links are also expected to be completed by the end of this year.

On that occasion, Shri Sonowal said: “For the rapid development of Northeast India, our dynamic Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji has taken many revolutionary steps to revitalize our economy. Prime Minister Modi ji’s vision of transformation through transportation has enabled the entire Northeast region to renew its transportation network.

As the construction of this crucial multi-modal park progresses at a rapid pace, it is likely to unlock tremendous potential for the region along with neighboring countries such as Bhutan and Bangladesh. The PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan is designed to revitalize and rejuvenate transportation to become an efficient and effective agent of change.

To ensure the seepage of economic prosperity, the PM Gati Shakti NMP aims to strengthen the coastal regions of both sea and rivers. I call on everyone to join this wonderful initiative and make it a great success.”

The park is being developed under the government’s ambitious Bharatmala Pariyojana. The first such MMLP will be manufactured by NHIDCL in Jogighopa of Assam. The park will be connected to roads, rail, air and waterways. This is being developed on a 317 hectare land along the Brahmaputra.

The distance of 154 km between Jogighopa and Guwahati will be covered by the construction of a 4-lane road on this route, a 3 km railway line will connect Jogighopa station to the MMLP, another 3 km railway line will connect it to the IWT . and the road to the newly developed Rupsi Airport will be widened to 4 lanes for easier connectivity.

The MMLP will have all the facilities such as a warehouse, siding, cold store, customs building, courtyard, workshops, gas pumps, truck parking, administration building, guesthouses, snack bars, water treatment plant, etc.
