India exported 63,969 rupees worth of seafood in 2022-23

Parshottam Rupala, Union Minister for Fisheries, Livestock and Dairy Industry, said on Wednesday India’s seafood exports had more than doubled since 2013-14. The minister said exports totaled Rs.30,213 crore in 2013-14 and had risen to Rs.63,969.14 crore in 2022-23 – a rise of 111.73% – despite the challenges brought on by the pandemic .

“Today, Indian seafood is exported to 129 countries, with the US being the largest importer. The value of cumulative exports for the 9-year period from 2014-15 to 2022-23 was 3.41 lakh crore rupees versus 1.20 lakh crore rupees for the period from 2005-06 to 2013-14,” said Rupala .

He also added that freshwater and aquaculture fish production in the country had increased from just 2.18 lakh tons in 1950-51 to 121.12 lakh tons in 2021-22.

To strengthen the farm disease reporting system and improve the reporting of aquatic animal diseases in the country, Rupala today launched the ReportFishDisease (RFD) application here.
