IMU & IIT Madras sign memorandum of understanding Maritime India News

CHENNAI: Indian University of the Sea (IMU) And Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) signed a memorandum of understanding to initiate a cooperation agreement to promote maritime activities between the two bodies.

Indian University of the Sea (IMU) is a central university established by an Act of Parliament in November 2008 and poised to play a key role in the development of educated personnel for the maritime sector.

Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) is a statutory body established under the Institutes of Technology Act 1961 and is known for excellence in technical education, basic and applied research, innovation, entrepreneurship and industrial consultancy.

The aim of the MOU is to initiate a cooperation agreement to promote the following activities between the two institutions:
• Under identified initiatives Maritime India Vision 2030
• Collaboration between faculty members and student exchanges
• Joint research activities
• Joint PhD programs
• Joint Web-M-Tech programs
• Organization of seminars and academic meetings
• Development of long/short term programs
• Qualification courses for state credit banks
• Industry capacity building programmes.

The MoU was signed by Dr.Rajoo Balaji, Dean i/c, IMU and Prof. K. Murali, Dean (Faculty), Department of Ocean Engineering, IIT-M in the sublime presence of dr AS Malini V Shankar, IAS (Retired), Vice Chancellor, IMU & Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT-M on February 27, 2023 at IMU HQ.

Mister. K Saravanan, IMU Registrar delivered the welcome speech and Cmde KD Joshi (retd), examiner for exams delivered the acceptance speech.
