IIM Bangalore launches TCI-IIMB Supply Chain Sustainability Lab

IIM Bangalore opens the TCI-IIMB Supply Chain Sustainability Lab (TCI-IIMB SCSL), a new on-campus sustainability laboratory dedicated to supply chain management.

The laboratory, which will be inaugurated on April 28, 2023, is part of the IIMB’s ongoing effort to reinvent itself and stay at the forefront of research application. The laboratory will be set up in partnership with Transport Corporation of India (TCI).

This new laboratory is a testament to the IIMB’s commitment to academic excellence, research and innovation in the areas of sustainability and supply chain. It will be an important resource for the academic community and the wider business community.

Renowned Indian heart surgeon Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, Chairman of the IIMB Board of Governors, will inaugurate the laboratory in the presence of Prof. Rishikesha T. Krishnan, Director of the IIM Bangalore, Vineet Aggarwal, Executive Director of the Transport Corporation of India, and other dignitaries.

The inauguration will also launch an online transport emissions calculation tool, available to all carriers and shippers to calculate total GHG emissions from freight transport. This tool covers all modes of transport: road, rail, air and sea and will be available in several Indian languages ​​in the future.

The lab will provide a platform for researchers, students and faculty to come together and collaborate, create and share information, and work toward the common goal of advancing sustainability practices in the supply chain.

Through the lab, the IIMB will seek to foster connections between industry pioneers, government organizations and other academic institutions. It will also give students the opportunity to gain practical experience through internships, research projects and other diverse programs.

The TCI-IIMB SCSL aims to advance sustainable supply chain management in India through research and advisory services. The lab plans to conduct research in areas such as decarbonization, the circular economy and sustainable procurement, and publish white papers on sustainable supply chain management topics. It will also provide advisory services on carbon-related mapping, measurement, mitigation and management.

In addition, there are plans to offer certification and assessment services, such as B. the sustainability assessment of suppliers. It has already initiated research projects, white papers and case studies and collaborates with other organizations.
