Hapag-Lloyd opens new office in Romania

Hapag-Lloyd opens a new office in Romania. Bordering five European countries and with direct access to the Black Sea, Romania is an attractive growth market for Hapag-Lloyd and occupies a strategic position in this region. Based in Bucharest, the country’s capital and economic hub, the new office has 21 employees.

Thanks to its strategic location, Romania offers direct access to central, eastern and north-western European countries via the Danube-Black Sea Canal and, with the port of Constanța, represents an important hub port for container traffic in the Black Sea region. Hapag-Lloyd currently offers one weekly direct service to and from Constanta.

In recent years, Romania has achieved one of the highest growth rates of any EU member and has received significant investments from multinationals and other EU countries alike. In terms of volume, the main exports from Romania are wood and wood products, automotive products, tyres, machinery, steel products and paper. On the import side, the main focus is on consumer goods, building materials, natural rubber and food.

“Romania is an attractive growth market with an important port and good hinterland connections by road and rail,” says Juan Pablo Richards, Senior Managing Director Region South Europe at Hapag-Lloyd. “This new office in the capital Bucharest fits in with our strategy to grow in key markets. We are very pleased to open our own office at this strategically important location, which will enable us to serve our customers in the Black Sea region and beyond even better.”
