Hapag-Lloyd introduces environmentally friendly transport solution based on biofuels

Hapag-Lloyd has announced the launch of Ship Green, a new solution for climate-friendly, biofuel-based transport.

Ship Green is accessible from anywhere, anytime and doesn’t require a long-term commitment, according to the German shipping company, which also added that it can also be used as an additional service to customers’ existing bookings.

Explaining the new project, Hapag-Lloyd said that by using Ship Green, customers can choose three different options corresponding to different levels of avoidance of carbon dioxide (CO2e) emissions: 100%, 50% or 25% of the sea leg of your shipments CO2e -Emissions.

Confirmed shipments have Green options available in the company’s Online Business Suite.

In addition, customers receive an emissions avoidance statement at the end of each quarter, demonstrating the total emissions avoided through Ship Green.

The underlying calculation of the emission avoidance is based on the well-known emissions accounting method of the Clean Cargo Initiative (CCI), according to Hapag-Lloyd in its press release.
