GST revenue collection for April 2023 is the highest ever at Rs 1.87 lakh crore

The Treasury on Monday reported GST surveys for the month of April 2023 at Rs 1.87 lakh crore, the highest ever.

“The April 2023 gross GST levy is an all-time high, Rs 19,495 crore higher than the next highest levy of Rs 1,67,540 lakh crore in April 2022,” said a press release from the centre.

GST collections totaled Rs 1.6 lakh crore in March.

The gross GST revenue collected in April 2023 is Rs. 1,87,035 crore, of which CGST Rs. 38,440 crore, SGST Rs. 47,412 crore, IGST Rs 12,025 crore (including Rs 901 crore levied on importing goods), according to a government release.

“Receipts for the month of April 2023 are 12% higher than GST earnings for the same month last year. During the month, receipts from domestic transactions (including import of services) are 16% higher than receipts from these sources in the same month last year,” the Ministry of Finance said.

For the first time, gross GST collection has passed the ₹1.75 lakh crore mark. The total number of e-way bills generated in March 2023 was 9.0 billion, which is 11% more than the 8.1 billion e-way bills generated in February 2023.

Collections for April 2023 mark the second consecutive month that collections have increased with the center raking in Rs 1.49 lakh crore in February 2023 and Rs 1.60 lakh crore in March 2023.
