Goyal appeals to the trucking industry to be honest and transparent in business

Trade and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday called on the trucking industry to be transparent and honest in its work as it would help boost trade.

He also suggested they advise their clients on honest practices and become whistleblowers when someone does something wrong.

“We need your support in our quest to clean up the system… We want to have a system in which we can trust you blindly… Be transparent and honest in your business,” he said at the Confederation of Freight Forwarders’ Associations event in India (FFFAI).

Goyal also said the government is taking steps to boost economic growth.

He added that huge foreign exchange reserves are in place to bridge the current account deficit for the next five to six years.

The minister said the country’s exports had hit an all-time high in 2022-23 despite global uncertainties.

Speaking at the event, CBIC Chairman Vivek Johri also urged the industry to properly KYC their customers as it should know the background of those customers.

He said that without proper KYC, fraud occurs.

“You need to know your customer very well…advise them correctly…report if a delivery is wrong…and advise your customers within the law,” Johri said.

He also urged them to adhere to strict internal controls.

He added that the government is taking a number of steps to simplify processes for exports and imports.

Still, there is still work to be done, he said, adding the National Committee on Trade Facilitation (NCTF) has set out an ambitious action plan for “us, in which we have been given specific targets to reduce the release time of charge.” .
