Union Minister Shripad Naik said on Sunday the government is determined to solve the challenges faced by seafarers, who play an important role in boosting India’s economy.
The MoS for Ports, Shipping, Waterways and Tourism made a speech at the inauguration of the Seafarers’ Club at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) in Navi Mumbai to mark International Seafarers’ Day.
Located on JNPA premises, the state-of-the-art club offers seafarers a welcoming and comfortable space. An official statement states that the club will serve as the perfect hub for maritime professionals during their time on land.
“JNPA has served the maritime industry for 34 years and has made a tremendous contribution to the country’s economy. We should applaud the excellent work it has done to improve the maritime sector.
“And this seamen’s club is an example of that. The government is committed to solving the challenges faced by seafarers,” added Naik.
He said seafarers are strengthening India’s economy and they realize that the growth of the shipping industry will help India grow.
