Government changes export policy for biofuels

The government said on Wednesday that biofuel exports from special economic zones and export-oriented entities for both fuel and non-fuel purposes will be allowed without any restriction if the biofuel is produced using imported raw materials. On August 28, 2018, the government restricted biofuel exports within days of imposing similar conditions on its imports.

A permit is required for both the export and import of biofuels. Biofuels include ethyl alcohol, petroleum and bituminous mineral oils, biodiesel and blends.

The General Directorate for Foreign Trade (DGFT) amended this 2018 notice to “that the export of biofuels from special economic zones/export-oriented units for both fuel and non-fuel purposes is fully permitted if they are only produced using imported feedstuffs” .

Special economic zones and export-oriented units are specifically intended for export purposes.
