FIEO strives for flexible working hours for export units

The Federation of Indian Export Organizations (FIEO) has appealed to Chief Minister MK Stalin to allow flexible working hours for export industries.

The association’s president, A. Sakthivel, said Tuesday in a memorandum to the prime minister that industries in all sectors have welcomed the flexible working hours announced by the government through the amendment to the factory law. However, that was put on hold.

A recent report released by the International Labor Organization states that flexible working hours will bring benefits to economies, businesses and workers, improve productivity and improve work-life balance.

Exporting entities face unpredictable market conditions and several other challenges. States like Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh have introduced flexible working hours and this is a solution for exporters. Mr. Sakthivel urged Mr. Stalin to consider flexible hours for exporting units to the state.
