Dubai-based logistics company DP World announced on Thursday the opening of a new rail-bound containerized freight (CFS) station at Hazira in Gujarat. The facility is capable of handling up to 36,000 containers annually and will serve as a hub for consolidation and deconsolidation of cargo, DP World said in a statement.
Also, it will facilitate customs clearance and provide warehousing and distribution services to customers.
“The new CFS represents a significant investment in the region’s infrastructure and logistics capabilities. Our goal is to help our customers manage the complexities of global trade,” said Ranadhir Reddy, CEO of Rail and Inland Terminals at DP World.
DP World said it will also provide value-added services such as labeling, repackaging and quality control to meet the diverse needs of customers in the region.
The new rail-bound CFS will increase economic growth and competitiveness and help increase the overall efficiency of logistics in the region, it said.
“The Port of Hazira is an important gateway for trade and commerce along the west coast of India.
“We are confident that our newly launched CFS will strengthen the port’s role as a critical link in the global supply chain and create new opportunities for businesses by improving their connectivity to the markets they serve,” said Rizwan Soomar, CEO and Managing Director Director for India Subcontinent & Sub-Saharan Africa at DP world.
The strategic synergies between the Port of Hazira, DP World’s rail-based CFS and multi-modal logistics capabilities will enable companies to expand into new markets while increasing cost efficiencies and boosting trade in West, Central and North India, he added .
