Containing pollution from spilled cargo at the port

Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar on Thursday threatened to stop transporting various cargoes from Gate 9 of the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) if authorities fail to curb pollution from spillage.

Speaking to the media after launching various self-sufficiency courses for women, including coir and hand weaving, through the crafts department, Amonkar stated: “I will be forced to stop the transport from Gate 9 if MPA don’t follow the instructions holds, which they have granted after a conversation with the district administration south. The MPA had pledged to remove heavy vehicles from Gate 1 by covering the trucks with tarpaulins and washing the wheels before leaving the port area. However, it has been observed that there has been an increase in pollution from cargo spilling from the vehicles onto the roads.”
