Container trailer catches fire at DP World’s Nhava Sheva terminal

A truck loaded with containers at the quayside of the Indian port of Nhava Sheva (JNPA) caught fire last night (March 2).

The trailer was reportedly being used for inter-terminal transport for DP World’s Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (NSICT).

According to sources, the cause of the fire was initially unknown.

However, the incident did not have any major impact on terminal operations or cargo movement activities at the port.

In addition, no injuries were reported.

“The terminal is operating normally,” port sources said.

NSICT is DP World’s older box facility in the public port. The company’s second facility is known as NSIGT.

Nhava Sheva Port handles a significant portion of India’s container trade.

According to the latest data, from April 2022 to February 2023, the first 11 months of the 2022-23 financial year, the port handled 5.5 million TEU, up 6.4% year on year. The port is thus on the verge of a new throughput high in the current year.
