Construction of 10,331 km of national roads in 2022-23

National Highway (NH) construction in 2022-23 totaled 10,331 kilometers, falling 21 percent short of the government’s target of 12,500 km, according to the latest data from the Department for Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). In the past financial year, the ministry awarded NH projects with a length of 12,376 km.

“MoRTH built 10,331km of National Highways in fiscal year 2022-23 and awarded NH projects of 12,376km during that period,” the ministry said in a tweet.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) are primarily responsible for the construction of National Highways and Expressways in India.

The ministry said it built 10,237 km in 2019-20, 13,327 km in 2020-21 and 10,457 km in 2021-22.
