Center sanctions eight floating dock projects in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu

Under its Sagarmala program, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has approved in principle four floating dock projects in Karnataka, while at the same time approved in principle four other floating dock projects in Tamil Nadu.

With these four additional projects in Karnataka, there are a total of 11 floating dock projects in the state.

These projects are mainly located on the Gurupura River and the Netravati River and are intended to be used for tourism purposes. The other sites are Thannir Bhavi Church, Bangra Kuluru, Kulur Bridge and Jappina Mogaru NH Bridge, according to a statement released by the ministry on Thursday.

In addition, the Ministry has approved four floating dock projects in Tamil Nadu in principle.

Agni Thertham and Villoondi Theertham’s projects are located in Rameshwaram, a renowned spiritual place in India. In addition, the projects are located in Cuddalore and Kanyakumari and target tourists in these prestigious tourist destinations.

According to the statement, these projects will help provide tourists with safer and smoother transportation and lead to the overall development and uplift of the coastal community.

Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal said: “Our Honorable Prime Minister (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) attaches great importance to the provision of strong connectivity, which is essential to building a developed India. The installation of these jetties will be a big push for the socio-economic development of these regions in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and create new avenues for water-related tourism and regional trade with more job opportunities for local people.”

According to the statement, under its Sagarmala program, the ministry has pushed ahead with a series of reforms and initiatives in the maritime industry to strengthen the country’s socio-economic and regulatory environment.

One of the Department’s key initiatives is the promotion and development of a unique and innovative concept of a floating jetty ecosystem that offers a number of advantages compared to traditional fixed jetties, such as: B. Environmental friendliness, longer durability and modularity construction, the ministry said in the statement.
