Cargo ship breaks in half off Russian anchorage

One person has reportedly died after a cargo ship broke in half at a Russian anchorage in the Black Sea.

The reporting points to the Comoros flag navaid had about 3,000 tons of marble fragments in its holds when it broke in two at the Novorossiyak anchorage in southern Russia.

Eleven crew members were rescued from the ship, but one reportedly died from injuries and another is in critical condition.

Video filmed from shore shows the ship protruding bow and stern out of the water in stormy weather.


AIS data shows that the navaid arrived at the anchorage on February 15. The last position acc was received on Tuesday at 1352 LT.
