BLR Airport maintains the top position in the transportation of perishable cargo for the third year in a row

Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (KIAB / BLR Airport) has maintained its position as India’s leading airport for handling perishable cargo for the third consecutive year. The airport handled 44,143 tonnes of perishable cargo in the year to January 2023 (full year results are expected) and 52,366 tonnes in FY22. BLR Cargo contributed 28% of India and 45% of South India perishable cargo market share,
The main exports are poultry products and flowers, and the main destination is Doha.

BLR Airport has also become the third busiest airport in India for handling international cargo, with top export destinations like LEJ, FRA, MXP, SIN and DXB and top import destinations like SIN, FRA, DXB, HKG and BKK. The airport has seen growth in various sectors including pharmaceuticals, technical goods, ready-made clothing and electronics. During the Valentine’s Day season, BLR Airport handled 17.4 million roses, an increase of 14% compared to the previous season.

UPS began operations in July 2022 and offers five weekly scheduled flights between ShenzhenBangalore and Cologne. On the same day, the UPS facility at BLR Airport’s Express Cargo Terminal began operations. BLR Airport is now the only airport in South India and the second airport in India to host the three largest express companies in the world – DHL, FedEx and UPS. As of January 6, 2023, Quikjet has launched domestic freighter services at BLR Airport for Amazon Prime Air, offering a daily service between DEL-BLR-HYD. Sichuan Airlines started scheduled cargo flight operations
on October 30, 2022, operating the CTU-BLR-SZX routes.

BLR Airport aims to have a cargo handling capacity of around 1 million tons per year by the end of the decade to meet the needs of its expanding cargo operations. The airport has selected AISATS (Air India SATS Airport Services Private Limited) to build, design and manage the infrastructure of the cargo logistics park. Additionally, in FY23, the airport launched its BLR CARGO branded cargo offering, becoming the first airport in India to develop a dedicated brand identity for its cargo business.
