Andhra Pradesh Government Changes Greenfield Seaport Name to Srikakulam

Andhra Pradesh government on Sunday renamed Bhavanapadu port as Mulapeta Port, respecting the sentiments of villagers in Srikakulam district.

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will lay the foundation stone for the greenfield port on April 19.

Karikal Valaven, Special Secretary for Infrastructure and Investments (Ports), said the state government made this decision as farmers from Mulapeta and Vishnuchakram villages requested the name change as Bhavanapadu village had no latitude in the proposed port area, considering all of Mulpeta’s lands and some from Vishnuchakram are intended for acquisition.

“Therefore, the Srikakulam district collector submitted the proposals to rename the port of Bhavanapadu as Mulapeta Greenfield Port, since all the land and families displaced by the project belong to the villages of Mulapeta and Vishnuchakram, and not Bhavanapadu,” Valaven said in a statement.

The farmers raised this concern during the district level negotiation committee meetings chaired by the Srikakulam District Collector.

As a result, the state government issued an order notifying Bhavanapadu Port as Mulapeta Port with the same restrictions, including directing the Chief Executive of the AP Maritime Board and the Srikakulam District Collector to make the necessary changes.
