Andhra CM lays foundation stone for Mulapeta Port in Srikakulam

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for the Rs 4,362 crore greenfield port of Mulapeta in Srikakulam district, which is expected to be completed within two years.

Besides the port, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation for a fishing port in Budagatlapalem, a living irrigation project from Gotta Dam to Hira Mandalam Reservoir and further development of works on Mahendra Tanaya River.

“I am proud to say that these four projects will change the face of Srikakulam district in the coming days,” Reddy said at a public meeting in Naupada village, adding that the district will be endowed with 193 kilometers of coastline is, which departs from that of the southern state, a total of 974 km of coastline.

However, he noted that in this coastal district, which had the potential to become another Chennai or Mumbai, no port, fishing port or fish-landing center had been built over the decades.

Reddy noted that the Port of Mulapeta in the Sonthabommali Mandal would be completed in 24 months and that the seaport has the potential to directly and indirectly employ 35,000 people, including the creation of several other part-time jobs.
