Allcargo Group is increasing its ESG initiatives to create a positive impact on stakeholders

Allcargo Group, a global logistics conglomerate founded in India, is strengthening its ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) framework and accelerating its initiatives.

The priority for Allcargo Group is to ensure that its companies around the world have a common, robust framework for their ESG initiatives at various stages of development to achieve sustainable results, while maintaining the Group’s commitment to the environment and the… to strengthen society. It has retained KPMG Assurance and Consulting Services LLP to help establish the underlying framework for the ESG strategy and formulate the milestone targets. It has engaged GovEVA for the group’s global footprint and to automate ESG reporting along with the digital tools needed to track and execute ESG programs. GovEVA ESG software is a unique technology that combines cutting-edge, AI-enabled automation and domain-rich content that accelerates an organization’s ESG journey.

The group’s ambitious ESG strategy is led by a core group that includes senior executives from all offices worldwide, led by Suresh Kumar R, CEO of Allcargo Logistics India. A comprehensive roadmap for the group to achieve its ESG and sustainability goals will be prepared. To better understand how ESG could be integrated into the Group’s business, over 300 senior management team members have been trained through a comprehensive program by NITIE (National Institute of Industrial Engineering).

“We are rethinking our existing business models and believe that for sustainable growth, ESG must be integral and embedded in our business strategy. To further expand our ESG agenda, we have set out on a journey to build a diverse workforce while nurturing the community in which we live. Our ultimate focus with the ESG strategy is to help us position ourselves for continued success while supporting our clients’ business objectives. At this point, we are in a unique position to unify our operations and be more focused and sustainable, coupled with digital innovation that will ultimately see us driving not only the group’s sustainability agenda, but also sustainable logistics solutions with the whole logistics to shape the ecosystem and leave a better planet for future generations,” said Mr. Shashi Kiran Shetty, Founder and Chairman of Allcargo Group.

In recent quarters, Allcargo Group has launched a number of programs spanning a wide range of topics – cybersecurity, diversity and inclusivity and community support to name a few. The group’s cybersecurity posture follows best practices and is ISO27001 certified, while the Cyber Exposure Score (CES) is in the low-risk category. Because the group is spread across the globe, it has streamlined and centralized its technology stack and has a unified dashboard for reporting on key metrics. In terms of inclusion and diversity, the group has over 50% women in its workforce worldwide. ECU Worldwide (a group company) is a leader in this area and there are opportunities for other group companies. In order to further promote female employees, a group-wide initiative RESTART – Back To Work Program for Women was launched for women who are returning to work after a break. At Gati-KWE, every fifth position in middle and upper management is held by women.

Allcargo Group was among the first to recognize the importance of upskilling the community in which they operate and was instrumental in establishing a multi-skill development center in partnership with JNPT and CIDCO. It provided underprivileged youth with an opportunity to improve their employability while finding skilled workers and enabled many families to transform their lives for the better. Over the years, under Allcargo’s Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra (PMKK), over 500 students have completed training and received internship support.

To contribute to environmental sustainability, the group is also ensuring that by 2025, Gati (an Allcargo Group company) will convert its entire fleet of last-mile delivery vehicles to alternative fuels. The Avvashya Foundation, Allcargo Logistics’ CSR arm, is on track to meet its goal of one million trees by 2023 by working with 15,000 farmers in Maharashtra’s tribal belts, including Jawhar, Mokada and Karjat in Palghar districts and Raigad in Maharashtra under the aegis of the Maitree Initiative.

Allcargo Group has a turnover of over US$2.6 billion and is headquartered in Mumbai with offices in 180 countries including Allcargo Logistics Limited, ECU Worldwide and Gati Limited. The group has a unified focus on customer centricity and a digital-first approach, offering solutions for the entire international supply chain, express distribution, CFS-ICD, contract logistics and logistic parks.
