202 NH projects valued at Rs 79,789 under implementation: Gadkari

A total of 202 National Highway (NH) projects worth Rs. 79,789 crore are in the implementation phase in the country, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Thursday.

Those projects total 6,270 km, the Minister for Roads, Transport and Motorways said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.

“Also, another 42 NH projects with length of 474 km and value of Rs.10,992 crore are in tendering stage and 11 NH projects with length of 245 km and value of Rs.3,816 crore are in the stage of announced date in Maharashtra state,” he said.

The construction time of these projects amounts to 18 to 30 months from the agreed date, Gadkari said.

In a separate response, he said the government is closely monitoring the construction of NHs in the country. Regular reviews are conducted at various levels to resolve issues and speed up the progress of all NH projects.

A deadline of 2-3 years is generally observed for the completion of new NH projects. However, construction work on NHs is sometimes behind schedule for a variety of reasons, such as: B. Delays in land acquisition, delays in meeting government suspensive requirements such as various permits, shifting of utilities, contractor/concessionaire delays including cash flow issues, etc.

“Four NH projects running through Dhenkanal District in Odisha are being delayed, mainly due to land acquisition delay, deforestation and slow contractor performance.

According to the revised schedule, the target for the completion of these projects is March 2024,” he said.
